Blog Post 7 (2.1) Where I Hear About the World

I get my news from many different sources. I am a registered independent because I truly believe both parties have had to have lost their minds to say some of the things they say. Therefore, I can read articles from both sides of the political spectrum. I like to think of myself as capable of transcending the “Great Valley of the ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ Spectrum,” (A rather exclusive title I may add). All jokes aside, I do try to find valid points in all the articles I read, thought that sometimes becomes I difficult thing to do. Ranging from MSNBC to CNN to Fox News I try to pay attention to all the giants of news media. Sometimes it is a rather comic spectacle changing between two rival stations who have chosen to cover the same topic while completely disagreeing with each other nearly 100% of the time. When that sort of thing is a fairly common occurrence I feel that it is best to avoid such media providers because that should be evidence enough that they do not strive for truth, rather their own political, monetary, and social gain. This is when I reach into less mainstream media that doesn’t incorporate bias, sensational television drama such as MSNBC or Fox. I enjoy reading the New York Times, Huffington Post, and also any local papers I happen to come across. As the latest addition, I also like to delve into the chaotic underworld of blogging. I sometimes find gems amongst the heaps of garbage that gradually restore by faith in our society.
I am a lover of political, economic, and social issues so with such a broad set of interests many articles tend to catch my attention. Recently my attention has been drawn towards gun control and the economy, though I still pay attention to social issues such as equal marriage rights, legalization of marijuana, environmental debates, and so on. I am also fascinated with what is going on around the world but since I do not search much for outside news as much as I want to.
Though I do not under any circumstances consider myself to global news-savvy person, I make my best effort, and continue to improve, to know about and truly understand the world around me.
