The press sphere is the way the by which the media
circulates news and reaches the audience. The press sphere has become more
intricate and complex over the last decade because of the exponential boom of
technology- specifically the Internet. The press sphere used to be a relatively
simple process: events took place, the news printed articles in the paper,
people read it, and that was it. Now we have thousands of articles written
about the same topic, most of which have their own biases and the reader now has
a much greater task, or responsibility, in finding accurate accounts and
analyses of the event. Jarvis refers to the press sphere as not only written
news, but it takes into account sources, data, observations, witnesses,
archives, government, business, and so on. It takes into account everything
related to the creation of the event or story. An individual can now have
access to nearly unlimited depth in an event because of the compilation of data
that all fits into the big web that creates the story. Back before the internet
it was extremely difficult to get much more information than was presented in
the news article you read. You may have read a few different newspapers or
listened to a radio or tv broadcast but there was no way of getting that information
after it had aired. This press sphere Jarvis describes is definitely an
infinitely expanding entity that collects the human experience.
